THE GLORY OF THE LORD FILLED THE TEMPLE
2 Chron. 5:2-14
“And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple of God.” (14)

First, the ark of the covenant (2-10). David had prepared all necessary things for the building of the temple. Then his son Solomon built it. Now it was time for the temple to be consecrated by God’s word and God’s presence. The ark had to be moved to the Most Holy Place. Inside the ark were the two stone tablets which contained the Ten Commandments. They represent God’s word and God’s covenant with his people. The most precious thing is the word of God. The word of God should have first place in our inner hearts. Our relationship with God should take priority over all other things.
Lord, I confess that your word has not taken first place in my heart and life. Help me to make it a priority to meditate on your word daily and put your word in the inner sanctuary of my heart. In this way, help me to be consecrated unto you. Let your word have first place in my family. In Jesus’ name Amen.

Second, the glory of the LORD filled the temple (11-14). The Levites with 120 priests played instruments to praise and thank God while the singers raised their voices in praise: “He is good; his love endures forever!” What do we know about God? We know that he is good and that his love endures forever. Man is a mixture of good and evil. His love is changeable. But God’s goodness is absolutely pure and his love never changes. This is great cause to rejoice. When all was complete, the glory of the LORD filled the temple. The glory of the LORD is His presence. What sinful man longs for is to see the glory of the LORD. But because of our sins, we have lost sight of God’s glory. We are blinded by human glory and seek our own human glory instead of God’s eternal glory. I am like the disciples who were looking for human greatness and glory on earth. What I want to see is God’s glory in my life and my family.

Lord, I want to see your glory. Let your glory fill my temple, the temple of my heart. Help me to fix my eyes on Jesus and be filled with your glory so that I may not seek human glory which is perishable. Help me not to be obsessed with perishable human glory but only your eternal glory.

One Word: God’s glory filled the temple!
